In 2020, Element Energy led the Phase 1 Baseline Local Emissions Assessment in support of the Humber Industrial Decarbonisation Roadmap (HIDR) commissioned by Humber LEP and CATCH.  Therefore to support our future work packages, HICP is pleased to release an updated local emissions assessment report progressed by Element Energy. The updates presented in this report focus on the breakdown of local CO2 emissions by sector and fuel type, and on business as usual scenarios to 2040.

Jonathan Oxley, HICP Project Lead said "The update to the Phase 1 Baseline Local Emissions Assessment report confirms the scale of opportunity in the Humber region for industrial decarbonisation. The Humber region emits approximately 24 MT of CO2 per year through its industrial and power generation sectors, making it the largest emitting cluster in the UK. The Humber Industrial Cluster, home to two gateway deployment projects, is strategically placed to fulfilling the national government’s ambition to reach Net Zero by 2050, as indicated in the 10 Point Plan for Green Industrial Revolution.

As the next step, the HICP technical team, will be using the findings from the Baseline report to further identify the size of the gap to net-zero emissions, if the carbon reduction or abatement potential fulfilled by successful implementation of the deployment projects is incorporated into the baseline emission"
